WYN Legal Welcomes Law Society’s Move to Retire “Dear Sirs” from Legal Correspondence

WYN Legal welcomes the Law Society’s updated guidance on inclusive language, which calls on legal professionals to stop using the outdated salutation “Dear Sirs” in correspondence. The move marks a significant step towards fostering greater equality, diversity, and inclusion within the legal profession.

The Law Society’s revised guidance recognises that traditional greetings such as “Dear Sirs” are no longer representative of the modern legal workforce or its clients. Instead, the Society encourages neutral alternatives such as “Dear Legal Team,” “Dear All,” or using the recipient’s name where possible – a change that aims to reflect and respect today’s diverse professional landscape.
