Labour have confirmed that by 2030, landlords must upgrade their properties to achieve a minimum Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C.
The Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero, Miatta Fahnbulleh, stated: “We will mandate landlords to enhance their properties to an EPC band C by 2030. This initiative will ensure warmer, healthier homes for private renters, lifting many families out of fuel poverty and reducing energy bills.”
Originally, the target to reach an EPC rating of C across the private rental sector was set for 2025. However, former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak postponed this deadline in September 2023. Currently, landlords are only required to achieve an E rating to rent out a property.
